TENTATIVE 2018 Marching Band Schedule COMING SOON

High school band is a yearlong course.  After the first week of school (when improper schedules are fixed), the student must remain in band for the entirety of the year - we are a team and depend on one another to perform to the best of our ability just like sports teams.  Like sports teams, we have festivals where we are judged on how well we perform.  There are scores and each person has a part in the ensemble or team.  If even one person or part is removed, the overall sound of the band changes.

Playing a musical instrument teaches the learner about more than just music.  More importantly, it teaches self-discipline, accountability, self expression, teamwork, leadership, and problem solving that is easily understood by the high school student.

Objectives/Goals

The student will:

  • Perform on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.

  • Read and notate music.

  • Listen to, analyze, and describe music.

  • Evaluate music and music performances.

  • Sing alone, and with others, to demonstrate understanding of concepts.

  • Understand some basic relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.

  • Understand music in relation to history and culture.

  • Understand and demonstrate improvisation skills.

  • Demonstrate by action, student individual improvement gained by a pursuit of excellence, and contribute that musicianship to the group of which the student is a member.

  • Further basic music theory knowledge from middle school.

  • Compose and arrange music within specified guidelines.

These materials are required for class daily:
